Post COVID – GUT HEALTH = Staying Healthy

Now that I have tested COVID-19 FREE, I realize that I am so glad that I was working on my gut health before I contracted it. I feel that all of the supplements and the clean body that I was building helped me to push it right through my system.

I am doing these 6 things to be sure that I stay healthy.
Along with WEAR – WAIT – WASH

Eat the right foods.
A balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables provides the fiber that builds good bacteria and gut health. You might know that I have to be careful of fiber that gets stuck in my Tetris Intestines. I have so many adhesions that it is like Tetris up in there!

Other foods that build a healthy digestive system include kefir (a fermented milk drink that’s similar to yogurt and is rich in probiotics) and other fermented or pickled foods (such as kimchi, sauerkraut and pickled ginger).

Ask your health care provider about foods for specific problems such as constipation or bloating.

Get more sleep.
Not getting enough sleep is linked to a higher prevalence of obesity, which sets you up for digestive system disorders. Post COVID I am still really sleepy.

Move more.
As with other aspects of health, exercise is the best way to lose weight and maintain a healthy body weight to ward off digestive system problems. Walk that POOP OUT! I love my Gazelle that I have because even in the winter I can keep it moving and it is low impact for my back. WIN WIN.

Manage stress.
Reducing stress is fundamental to reducing heartburn and many other gut problems. Try relaxation therapies along with other distraction techniques.

Get help for issues like anxiety and depression.
Mood and digestive system health (especially disorders like irritable bowel syndrome) are closely linked via the brain-gut connection. Read my blog Gut health DOES affect Mental health

MOST OF ALL DRINK WATER!!
Drinking plenty of water has been shown to have a beneficial effect on the mucosal lining of the intestines, as well as on the balance of good bacteria in the gut. Staying hydrated is a simple way to promote a healthy gut. I happen to drink over a gallon of water each day!
